Establishment of the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Singapore

The Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is pleased to announce that, as of 1 December 2025, the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Singapore has been officially established.

Singapore is a key partner for Luxembourg in Asia, and the opening of a resident diplomatic mission reflects the importance both countries attach to further strengthening their longstanding and multifaceted relationship.

The year 2025 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Luxembourg and Singapore. In March, Luxembourg had the honour of welcoming the President of the Republic of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and his spouse, together with a large Singaporean delegation, for a State visit. This important milestone provided an opportunity to celebrate five decades of close ties and to lay the foundations for future cooperation between our countries and our peoples.

In this context, the Luxembourg Government has decided to progressively establish a resident Embassy in Singapore, alongside the creation of a Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office. While the Embassy is now formally established, work is ongoing to identify suitable premises. The precise timeline for the opening of the chancery and the start of full operations is currently being finalised.

During this transition phase, consular services for Luxembourg nationals will continue to be provided by the Embassy of Luxembourg in Bangkok. Full consular services will be made available in Singapore once the new Embassy is fully operational. These developments are expected to take place over the course of the coming year.

In accordance with established diplomatic practice, the opening of a resident Embassy entails the closure of Luxembourg’s Honorary Consulate in Singapore. For more than a decade, Luxembourg’s Honorary Consul, Ms Michelle Liem, has carried out her duties with dedication, supporting Luxembourg nationals, promoting Luxembourg’s interests, and strengthening the ties between Luxembourg and Singapore. The Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg expresses its sincere gratitude for her invaluable contribution and looks forward to continuing close and friendly relations.

The establishment of the Embassy marks the beginning of a new chapter in Luxembourg–Singapore relations and reaffirms Luxembourg’s commitment to deepening cooperation with one of its most important partners in the region.
