Working visit by Xavier Bettel to Singapore - Press release

On 25 July 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Xavier Bettel travelled to Singapore for the second leg of his working visit to Southeast Asia.
 


During the working visit, the Deputy Prime Minister officially inaugurated the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Singapore. The inauguration took place in the presence of Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vivian Balakrishnan.

In his speech, Minister Bettel highlighted the close ties between Luxembourg and Singapore. He stated: “The partnership between Luxembourg and Singapore is founded on common values and shared objectives. I am proud that today, with the opening of Luxembourg’s Embassy in Singapore, we are taking our relationship to a new level. Together, we can go further, faster!”

While in Singapore, Minister Bettel also held bilateral talks with Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan.

These meetings provided an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations and the potential for closer cooperation, now that Luxembourg has a resident embassy in Singapore.

The discussions also covered regional and international matters, particularly the situations in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Ukraine.

During his visit to Singapore, Minister Bettel also visited the premises that will house the Luxembourg Embassy.
